  • Starting in March of 2021, the subcommittee will examine all nominations and designate 5 final nominees.

  • During Spring Semester 2021, the 5 nominees will be voted on by faculty and academic administrators to determine the 2 recipients of the House/Bruckmann Award.

  • Additional information about the revised award process is in the House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award Task Force Report (click to download).

Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award Process:

  • Up to 5 Adjunct Faculty Excellence Awards will be presented annually, starting in Spring Semester 2021, with no more than one recipient per division (BTD, EIT, HPS, H&S, and adjunct faculty not assigned to one of the other divisions).

  • Adjunct faculty who may be nominated for the award include those who work in a part-time capacity for the College in assignments that involve instruction, cooperative education coordination, clinical coordination, academic advising, or another faculty role.

  • Nominations can be made by full-time and part-time faculty, academic administrators and staff members, and students. Self-nominations are not permitted.

  • The nomination form asks respondents to comment on the nominee’s excellence related to up to 3 of the following 7 criteria:

    • All nominations supported by program or department chairs will be sent to the applicable administrator (dean or director) for review.

    • All nominations supported by both the program/department chair and the applicable administrator will be reviewed by the Faculty Excellence Committee.

    • Program/department chairs and administrators may choose to not forward any nominations from their division to the Faculty Excellence Committee.

    • If multiple nominees from a division are supported by the program/department chair and the administrator, the Faculty Excellence Committee will review the nomination documentation and seek additional feedback from the program/department chair and administrator to select a recipient for that division.
  • Additional information about the revised award process is in the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award Task Force Report (click to download).

Background:

The revised House/Bruckmann awards process and the new Adjunct Faculty awards were adopted by Faculty Senate based on recommendations of the Faculty Excellence Task Force. The Senate established this Task Force in Fall 2019.

  • Task Force members were Tom Burns, Milene Donlin (Chair), Maya Franklin, Janelle McCord, Julie McLaughlin, Kathleen Pickens, Peggy Rolfsen, Janet Schlaak, and Geoffrey Woolf.

  • The Task Force members reviewed best practices for faculty excellence awards before preparing their recommendations.

The House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Awards were established in 1985 to recognize excellence in instruction and co-op/clinical coordination at the College.

  • The awards are named for Clifford R. House, the first president of Cincinnati Technical College, and Alice P. Bruckmann, a member of the College’s first Board of Trustees.

  • In 1994, the award criteria were changed to facilitate recognition of varied faculty responsibilities, not limited to classroom instruction and co-op/clinical coordination.

  • Award selection procedures have been adjusted several times since the inception of the award.

The Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award will be presented for the first time in 2021.

Comments or questions about the House/Bruckmann Award or the Adjunct Award can be sent to Faculty Senate President Lesli Rice or to any member of the Faculty Senate.
