Mallory Early Learning Center will reopen on Sep. 13
The William L. Mallory Early Learning Center on Cincinnati State’s Clifton Campus will reopen on Monday, Sep. 13 to provide care for infants and toddlers.
Cincinnati State has contracted with Learning Grove Inc. to operate the Mallory Center.
The Mallory Center opened in 1987 and provides licensed care for 62 children.
The Center is available for Cincinnati State students and employees as well as individuals in the community seeking high-quality child care and education.
The Center is named for the late William L. Mallory Sr., who as Majority Leader in Ohio’s House of Representatives secured state funding to create a child care facility at Cincinnati State.
Learning Grove was created in early 2020 when two 40-year-old organizations– Cincinnati Early Learning Centers and Children, Inc.– merged under the new name. Learning Grove serves a racially and socioeconomically diverse population of nearly 7,000 children, youth, and families annually, with programs across Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio.
Shawntay Mallory, a member of the Board of Directors for Learning Grove, said, “My Granddad and I shared a common instinct to advocate for children and provide them with resources they need.”
“I believe that he would be very happy to see that the commitment to the Center and the students’ success will remain top priority under Learning Grove’s direction. I’m honored to be part of this journey,” Ms. Mallory added.
“We are very happy to be working with Learning Grove to further the mission of the Mallory Center and of Cincinnati State,” said Cincinnati State President Dr. Monica Posey.
During its 30+ years of operations, the Mallory Center has helped build a better future for thousands of children and their parents, while also serving as a “learning lab” for Cincinnati State students in the Early Childhood Education program, providing high-quality training for preschool teachers throughout the region.
Kelly Hubbard, Program Chair for Early Childhood Education (ECE), said, “The Mallory Center Early Learning Program serves as a lab school for ECE students, and also supports field experiences for students in several other Cincinnati State degree and certificate program, including Dietetics and Dietary Management, Practical Nursing, and Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology.”
“For this Fall semester, 24 Early Childhood Education students are attending field placements administered by Learning Grove.”
“The Learning Grove philosophy embraces the idea that all children deserve to be nurtured through high-quality education, to learn to think critically, get along with others, and set the path toward a productive future,” Kelly added.
Learning Grove CEO Shannon Stakey-Taylor said, “We are thrilled to expand our programming to Cincinnati State to support children and families while simultaneously training the high-quality early care and education teachers that our community so desperately needs.”
