BOT June 22 meeting recording & slides are posted

If you were unable to attend the June 22 College Board of Trustees meeting, the video recording of the meeting is available on the College intranet.

Topics discussed during the meeting included:

  • Approval of a budget for Fiscal Year 2022. The budget assumptions include:
    • A projected net surplus at the end of the fiscal year of about $607,000, and a Senate Bill 6 score no less than 3.0 (on a 5-point scale)
    • No increase in tuition
    • Enrollment projected to be 8% lower than the previous year, based on long-term trends of declining enrollment
    • State subsidy allocation projected to be slightly lower than the previous year
    • Continuation of cost-containment practices related to operating expenses
    • One-time allocations of Federal Stimulus funds to budget lines for deferred maintenance, marketing, and strategic plan implementation
  • CFO Chris Calvert reported that the College expects to receive about $8 million in additional Federal Stimulus funds.

  • Approval of a resolution to raise the limit for requisitions that require competitive bidding from the current $5,000 to a new limit of $15,000. This is comparable to the standard used by other higher education institutions, and will increase efficiency in the College’s procurement processes.

  • Approval of contracts related to IT infrastructure modernization, fire loop improvements, WDC manufacturing lab upgrades, and design and technical improvements to the Daily News website.

  • Two reports from Provost Robbin Hoopes:
    • A summary of the Interim Report the College will be providing to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on July 1 that documents College progress in conducting assessment of academic programs and using assessment data to make improvements. Provost Hoopes said faculty are the “driving force” in assessment work and that Cincinnati State has “very good results” to report to HLC.
  • Recognition by President Posey of Faculty Excellence Award recipients for 2021, including House-Bruckmann Award recipients Jayne Dressing and Pam Ecker, and Adjunct Excellence Award recipients Kathryn Mitchell and Carolyn Rost.

  • President Posey also summarized other recent noteworthy College events, and announced the schedule of Board meetings for the rest of 2021: Aug. 24, Sep. 28, Oct. 26, and Dec. 7.
