Want to help K-8 students year-round? Join the CState “Adopt A Class” team
A Cincinnati State group is exploring how College employees can join forces with “Adopt A Class,” a local non-profit group that enlists businesses and civic groups to become mentors to students from underserved communities throughout Greater Cincinnati.
The CState group, led by Director of Institutional Research Mollie Miller, plans to offer information sessions in early August so employees can learn more about Adopt A Class and form mentor teams.
- The Adopt A Class model pairs mentor teams with a classroom teacher (Kindergarten through 8th grade). The volunteer team mentors a new class of students each school year.
- Throughout the year, mentors engage with their students one hour, once a month through classroom visits, educational activities, field trips, and “pen paling,” with emphasis on College & Career, Essential Employability Skills, and STE(A)M Activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math).
Mollie said she hopes Cincinnati State will be able to form multiple mentor teams to join the Adopt A Class program.
