National Black Nurses Assn President visited CState

Nursing students and faculty members as well as members of the community greeted Martha A. Dawson, DNP, RN, FACHE, President of the National Black Nurses Association, during her visit to Cincinnati State on Apr. 8.

Dr. Dawson (above in the pink jacket) is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Provost Robbin Hoopes said, “We were fortunate to have Dr. Dawson on campus to engage directly with our students. She led a wonderful informal discussion with the students and faculty members.”

Dr. Dawson’s visit to CState was arranged by Associate Dean of Nursing Marre Barnette.

The National Black Nurses Association was organized in 1971 and represents approximately 200,000 African American registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing students, and retired nurses from the U.S., Canada, Eastern Caribbean, and Africa.

The organization has 115 chapters that provide community-based health care services and outreach to African American communities throughout the U.S.
