Pres. Posey attended College Presidents Conference hosted by Sen. Sherrod Brown
President Monica Posey attended the 16th Annual College Presidents Conference hosted by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown on June 14 in Washington, D.C.
The Ohio Presidents Conference is an event for leaders of private and public colleges and universities. President Neville Pinto from the University of Cincinnati and Dr. Posey represented Cincinnati at this year’s conference.
Dr. Posey said the conference agenda focused on issues relevant to most institutions. Speakers included:
- Representative Bobby Scott (from Virginia), the Ranking Member of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, who discussed strategies to advance legislation that would significantly increase Federal Pell Grant funding.
- Manny Lamaree, Senior Advisor for the U.S. Dept of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, who discussed workforce challenges facing the next generation of students.
President Posey said, “I was pleased that the event provided a chance to thank Senator Brown personally for the funding he facilitated last year to support CState Accelerate. He was aware of our recent national recognition for the program also.”
In a statement posted on his website, Senator Brown said, “Ohio’s colleges and universities are important drivers of our state’s economy. Our job is to create opportunity, and show young Ohioans that they’ll be able to build a life and a future in Ohio.”
Senator Brown is a cosponsor of the Community College Student Success Act, which would fund programs at community colleges to support students by providing comprehensive wraparound services, including free tutoring, textbooks, and transportation. He has also supported the Tax-Free Pell Grant Act to help students take full advantage of higher education tax credits and Pell Grants to pursue a college education.
