Launch of “Roots to Boots” program for horticulture students gains media attention

The start of Cincinnati State Fall Semester classes included welcoming Cincinnati Public Schools graduates who are preparing for careers in Sustainable Horticulture as part of the College’s “Roots to Boots” partnership with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and the City of Cincinnati.

Channel 5 (WLWT) reporter Megan Mitchell interviewed two participating students for a report that aired on Aug. 26, 2024. Horticulture Program Chair Mark Deacon and Kirsten Brademeyer, Education and Youth Programs Manager at Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, described benefits of the program for students and for the city.

The Roots to Boots partnership, which was announced in April 2024, provides tuition support and opportunities for work experience for the participating students. The program also seeks to deepen environmental stewardship in Cincinnati by connecting a new generation of stewards to the movement for a Greener Cincinnati.
