Paramedic students at Colerain Township location achieved 100% pass rate on national exam

The Cincinnati State Workforce Development Center facilitates a year-long program based at the Colerain Township Fire Department Training Center, in conjunction with the Colerain Township Fire Department Training Division, to prepare students who are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) for additional credentialing as Paramedics.

Students at the Colerain Township location complete the same Paramedic Certificate coursework as is offered on Clifton Campus, including over 1,000 hours of clinical experience. Erin Sarvis is the program coordinator for the Colerain Township paramedic class.

The 27 Colerain Township students who completed the program in May 2024 achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the Nationally Registry psychomotor exam, a standardized “hands-on” test of knowledge and skills administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Paramedics not associated with the College served as evaluators who tested the students in six different practical scenarios.

Shawn Stacy, Program Chair for the EMT and Paramedic degree and certificate programs, said all of the students passed all six scenarios on the first attempt, and completed a computer-based cognitive exam.

“It was a great job by everyone involved,” Shawn said.
