Condolences to Grace Yek

Jay Holes, the husband of faculty member Grace Yek (Program Chair, Culinary & Food Science), died on June 2, 2024.

Jay was known professionally as Jay Warren in his work as a reporter and photographer at WCPO-TV (Channel 9). The name honored his grandfather, whose middle name was Warren.

In addition to his achievements as a journalist, Jay was a chess coach to many children and the founder of the Thunder Chess Academy in Mason, Ohio, a chess club he poured his passion into.

Jay was also a musician, an athlete, and “a fearless food adventurer.”

A memorial to celebrate Jay’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, at Mueller Funeral Home (6791 Tylersville Road, Mason OH 45040).

• Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 2 p.m.
• For those who cannot attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Jay’s life.
