I-75 / I-74 Construction Update – May 31-June 3 – Next phase of Mill Creek Expressway Project begins
During the weekend of May 31 to June 3, operations are taking place so crews can move into the next phase of the Mill Creek Expressway Project, which will include reconstructing the I-74 median barrier, and drainage and pavement work between the Spring Grove overpass and Montana Avenue.
- All scheduled work is contingent upon weather.
- To help ensure the safety of construction workers and the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed, and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zones.

Mill Creek Expressway Project
Friday-Monday, May 31 – June 3:
The following restrictions will be in effect throughout the weekend:
- Single-lane closure on I-75 North, from Hopple Street to the I-74 West ramp, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday. Then, a full closure of the ramp to I-74 West beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday.
- Single-lane closure on I-75 South, from the Mitchell Avenue ramp to the Ludlow Bridge overpass, starting at 8 p.m. Friday, followed by a double-lane closures at 9 p.m. Then, the ramp from I-75 South I-74 West will be closed at 9 p.m. Friday, and this will be in effect until 5 a.m. Monday.
- Full closure on I-74 West, from the I-75 North and I-75 South ramps to just west of the southbound Beekman Street overpass, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday. Motorists from I-75 North will be detoured via I-75 North, S.R. 126 West and I-275 South. Those traveling from I-75 South will be detoured via I-75 South, U.S. 50 and S.R. 128 to I-74.
- While I-74 West is closed at I-75, the on ramps from north and southbound Beekman Street/Colerain Avenue to I-74 West will remain open. The Texas Turnaround at the Montana Avenue/I-74 interchange will also remain in operation during the I-74 West closure and will continue to be in operation through December 2024.
After the maintenance of traffic has been switched, access to the Beekman Street/Colerain Avenue exit by way of I-75 North and I-74 West will be reopened, and the contraflow lane will be removed.
The new ramp from I-75 South to I-74 West will remain open; however, access from this ramp to Beekman/Colerain will remain closed, and motorists will continue to be re-routed by way of the Montana Avenue interchange and the Texas Turnaround to I-74 East.
During the 2024 construction season, the next phase of the Mill Creek Expressway project will see the reconstruction of the I-74 bridges over Spring Grove Avenue and Elmore Street, as well as the replacement of median barrier, pavement, highway lighting, signage, traffic monitoring system, noise walls, bridge painting, and drainage.
The Great Lakes Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $84.9 million to undertake the project, which began in the spring of 2022, and it is on schedule to be completed in the summer of 2025.
