CState student earns Certified Network Associate credential

Carmen Byes, a student in Cincinnati State’s Computer Network Administration (NETA) degree program, has earned the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credential, considered to be one of the top certifications in the computer networking field.

Faculty member Tom Newman, an instructor in the NETA program, said earning the CCNA credential requires successful completion of a 2-hour exam that examines knowledge and skills related to numerous aspects of computer networking. Earning the CCNA demonstrates ability to configure, operate, and troubleshoot an organization’s use of advanced computer networks.

“Carmen combined her previous work experience with a lot of extra study, outside of her Cincinnati State classes, to prepare for success on the certification exam,” Tom said.

Carmen plans to obtain the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise certification along with completing her NETA degree, and she hopes to become a Senior Network Engineer in the future.
