“Quiz masters” & other helpers needed for high school Academic League matches & tournaments in Jan. & Feb.
Cincinnati State has a long-standing tradition of serving as the site for academic “quiz bowl” competitions among students from area public and private high schools.
Faculty and staff members are needed to serve as quiz question readers for the Spring 2024 season of competition for the Greater Cincinnati Academic League (GCAL) and the Cincinnati Academic League (CAL). Matches are from 4 to 5:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Also, helpers are needed for Saturday tournaments taking place in January and February.
Spring weekly competitions:
- Monday matches are from 4 to 5:30 p.m., starting Jan. 22 and continuing through Feb. 26. (No matches on Presidents’ Day, Feb. 19.)
- Tuesday matches are from 4 to 5:30 p.m., starting Jan. 16 and continuing through Jan. 30.
Spring Tournaments:
- Saturday, Jan. 20, 8:30 a.m. to noon
- Saturday, Jan. 27, 8:30 a.m. to noon
- Saturday, Feb. 3, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Many helpers are needed for this big event that will include a large number of high schools
You can choose to help in any way that fits your schedule— you DO NOT need to commit to all days or all weeks of the season. If you can help with only a few of the matches, or help with one of the tournaments, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
No academic league experience is needed! Training in the art of reading quiz questions will be provided (but training does not guarantee you’ll be able to start a second career as a game show host).
For tournaments, in addition to “quiz masters,” volunteers are needed to serve as timers and scorekeepers. Anyone age 13 or older is welcome to assist, so you can make this a family event if you wish.
If you can help with Academic League matches and/or tournaments in January or February of 2024, or if you have questions, please contact league directors Mark Tiemeier (mark.tiemeier@cincinnatistate.edu) or Milene Donlin (milene.donlin@cincinnatistate.edu).
