CState surveying programs earned ABET accreditation
Cincinnati State’s Bachelor of Applied Science program in Land Surveying has earned accreditation awarded through the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) of ABET.
- The accreditation granted to Cincinnati State is retroactive to Fall 2020, when the first group of Land Surveying students graduated from the bachelor’s program.
- ABET accreditation also was awarded to Cincinnati State’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Surveying and Mapping.
ABET is a non-profit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. This accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession that graduates will enter after completing their studies.
Dr. Carol Morman, Program Chair for the Land Surveying bachelor’s program and the Surveying and Mapping associate degree program, said some states mandate graduating from an accredited academic program to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a professional land surveyor.
Dr. Morman said in Ohio, the “fastest and easiest pathway to licensure” requires graduating from an “approved curriculum in surveying of four years or more,” and ABET-accredited programs meet the standards for “approved curriculum.”
Currently, ABET accredits over 4,500 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries. ABET accreditation is considered the benchmark for quality in engineering fields.
