Update: Repairs to damaged natural gas line are underway
Contractors have removed the damaged natural gas piping outside the Main Building, and new piping is being fabricated and is expected to be delivered and installed this week.
Facilities Assistant Director Gerd Christner said the newly-installed pipe will need to be pressure tested under supervision of Duke Energy personnel. If all goes according to plan and no other leaks are detected, natural gas and hot water in the Main Building should be restored early in the week of August 7.
Then, the excavation area outside Exit Door 22 (near the Surge Cupboard Food Pantry) will have to be backfilled and restored, probably requiring at least two more weeks of repair work. Until repairs are completed, Exit Door 22 will remain closed to pedestrian traffic and some portions of Parking Lot D will continue to have reduced availability.
The Facilities Department appreciates your patience while repair work continues.
