Update: Damaged natural gas line has been found & repairs continue
After several days of careful digging and jackhammering near Main Building exit door 22, contractors were able to locate the source of the natural gas leak. The broken pipe was under the pavement near the door, and was encased in concrete.
Facilities Assistant Director Gerd Christner is working with the contractors on the repair strategy and timetable. Meanwhile, the natural gas line into the Main Building remains off. There is no danger resulting from the discovery of the leak.
As the repair process continues, Exit Door 22 (near the Surge Cupboard Food Pantry) remains closed to pedestrian traffic, hot water and natural gas lines for labs in the Main Building are not in service, and some portions of Parking Lot D continue to have reduced availability.
The Facilities Department appreciates your patience while repair work is completed.
