Black History Month on campus: View Rosa Parks documentary on Feb. 28
All members of the College community are invited to a free viewing of “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks” on Tuesday, February 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the ATLC Auditorium.
- The 2022 documentary, which was executive produced by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien, is based on a book by Professor Jeanne Theoharis that is described as “one of the most important scholarly contributions to civil rights history ever written.”
- The film uses interviews, historical footage, and Rosa Parks’ own words to tell the story of Mrs. Parks’ life beyond the bus boycott, covering her many decades of involvement in radical politics and her dedication to activism.
- CNN film critic Brian Lowry said the documentary “…highlights the selflessness of its subject and seeks to provide a detailed portrait of a woman who, through the vagaries of history, was frequently reduced to a symbol.”
The movie screening is sponsored by Cincinnati State’s JAIDE Council (Justice, Access, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) and the Cincinnati State Women’s Empowerment Network.
To help with event planning– and especially if you are planning to bring a class to the film screening– please RSVP to Angelica Kennedy (angelica.kennedy@cincinnatistate.edu), or you can reply to the calendar invitation that was sent from Dr. Posey to all employees.
