Library goes “fine free” in 2023
The Spring Semester 2023 edition of the Cincinnati State Johnnie Mae Berry Library Update announces a new policy related to fines: beginning this semester, borrowers will no longer be charged overdue fines for many Library resources. However, replacement charges will be billed for items that are not returned.
No overdue fines will be charged for items you get from the shelves yourself, including:
- Books from the General Collection
- Reference Books
- Fiction & Academic Videos
Fines will be charged for items you pick up from the Library Desk, including:
- OhioLINK & SearchOhio requests
- Course reserve books
- Other reserve items, such as Study Room keys & calculators
- Laptops and computer accessories
Please note:
- The new loan and fine rules apply only to new checkouts; they are not retroactive.
- Charges are still incurred for items not returned by the billing date (dates vary by type of item).
- For Cincinnati State items returned within 90 days of the overdue date, charges may be waived.
Another new policy now in effect is that books borrowed from the Library’s General Collection will be auto-renewed twice, unless another user has requested them. After two auto-renewals, the borrower is responsible for taking action to make additional renewals (up to four renewals).
