Presentation on “Schizophenia Oral History Project” on Sep. 27 is open to all
Cincinnati State students, faculty, and staff members are invited to attend a presentation by Dr. Tracy McDonough, Chair of the Psychology Department at Mt. St. Joseph University, on “The Schizophrenia Oral History Project.”
The presentation takes place Tuesday, September 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in ATLC 231 and will be available via Zoom at https://cincinnatistate-edu.zoom.us/j/81529924086?pwd=OXZjaU5zd0c3Q21Sd3QwOXBxdnY3QT09.
Dr. McDonough will describe and answer questions about her applied research on humanizing victims of schizophrenia through use of personal testimonies. She co-founded The Schizophrenia Oral History Project in 2011 to help facilitate greater public understanding of severe mental illness.
Dr. McDonough’s presentation is one of four guest lectures taking place this semester as part of a team-taught course facilitated by Humanities & Sciences Co-op Coordinator Jayne Dressing and Psychology Professor Dr. Heather Hatchett.
Participating students are enrolled in PSY 200, Abnormal Psychology, or are taking a Special Project experiential learning course that explores career paths in social and behavioral health. A goal of the team-taught course is to help students connect with area practitioners and Cincinnati State graduates who are working in the fields of psychology and social work.
Other presentations this semester will include:
- Oct. 20: Practitioners Panel discussion with Cincinnati State graduates who are working in behavioral sciences fields
- Nov. 8: Rachael Winters, LSW, MSW will discuss her work doing suicide and homicide assessments in an emergency room
- Dec. 6: Practitioners Panel discussion with area professionals who are working in behavioral sciences fields
