Employees with student loans can seek Public Service Loan Forgiveness
The Cincinnati State Office of Financial Aid would like full-time College employees who have outstanding student loans to be aware of the Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness (TEPSLF) waiver, which may lead to forgiveness of student loans.
On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education announced changes that apply to student loan borrowers, which mean you may receive credit for payments that previously did not qualify.
Changes include:
- partial and late payments will count
- months of forbearance will count toward payment
- payments made on previously ineligible loan types will count
- payments made since 2007 while meeting requirements will count
This waiver expires Oct. 31, 2022, so you should act promptly to take advantage of the opportunity to eliminate or reduce the time remaining for repayment of your student loans.
To qualify for TEPSLF, you must:
- Be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or non-profit organization (including military service). Cincinnati State is a qualifying employer.
- Work full-time for the qualifying organization.
- Have direct loans or consolidate other federal student loans into a direct loan.
- Have made or are in process of making a total of 120 payments.
