It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Cincinnati State’s Information Technology Services Department encourages all employees and students to refresh your knowledge of how to stay safe online, whether you are at work, at home, at school, or on the go with your digital devices.

The theme (and hashtag) for the month is #BeCyberSmart, and the focus for the first week is “Start with the Basics” (click to download PDF).

Basic elements of online security include:

• Make a long, unique pass phrase (not just a word)
   
• Use 2-factor authentication (as is required for your Cincinnati State account)
   
• When in doubt, throw it out (by not clicking or downloading items in unfamiliar links)
   
• Keep a clean machine (by keeping your software up to date)
