CS students have new pathway to bachelor’s in Phys Ed & Health with teaching certification
Cincinnati State has established its first cross-divisional transfer pathway, leading CState graduates to a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health with Teaching Certification at Northern Kentucky University.
Cincinnati State students will earn an Associate of Arts degree as well as the Personal Training Certificate before transferring to NKU.
Exercise Science Program Chair Mindy Piles and Associate of Arts/Associate of Science Program Chair Jen Martin created the cross-divisional transfer pathway that will help meet community needs.
Jobs for Physical Education teachers are in high demand– Jefferson County, Kentucky, alone has 50 open teaching positions. NKU is the only insititution in the region that offers the PE and Health teaching certification.
Jen Martin said, “I am hopeful this is the first of many cross-divisional collaborations leading to transfer pathways that benefit our students.”
“Students who choose the new pathway will graduate from Cincinnati State with an associate’s degree that is aligned with their transfer goals and they will also have a credential that allows them to work in their field while they finish their bachelor’s degree at a great partner institution.”
“It’s a win for everyone,” Jen said.
