CS adjunct is published in Jane Austen Society journal

An article by Cincinnati State adjunct instructor Damianne Scott was published in the Summer 2021 issue of Persuasions, the online journal of the Jane Austen Society of North America.

The issue focuses on the theme “Beyond the Bit of Ivory: Jane Austen and Diversity.”

• The article examines controversy over some Austen fans’ use of the pineapple emoji to show support for Sanditon, a TV series aired on PBS, in light of the historical symbolism of pineapples during the timeframe of the Austen novel that is the basis for the series.

Scott also teaches at the University of Cincinnati and she is the founder of the Facebook site Black Girl Loves Jane, whose mission is “encouraging diversity in Austen and other classic literature in whatever variation fashioned.”
