CState DE&I Steering Council starts its work
Cincinnati State’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Steering Council held its initial meeting on July 1.
The DE&I Steering Council and DE&I Subcommittees will work to support implementation of the College’s value statement on Equity as a foundational principle across all College operations and in the College’s Strategic Plan.
The value statement says:
- Equity: We believe in contributing to a socially and economically equitable society. We honor the diversity and inclusiveness of our College community and strive to hear all voices.
The members of the 17-person Steering Council were selected by President Monica Posey after reviewing expressions of interest submitted by College employees in Spring Semester 2021.
President Posey said, “I’m pleased that so many of our colleagues across the College have volunteered to help with our DE&I efforts, and I’m excited about the work before us.”
“The Steering Council members represent a diverse mix of employees in terms of demographics as well as College role and background,” President Posey added.
An additional student member and 2 or 3 community members will be added to the Steering Council later this year.
The Steering Council members will participate in a virtual training session on July 13. Training will cover DE&I fundamentals so all members can share a common vocabulary and understanding.
In addition to the Steering Council members, several DE&I Subcommittee members have been selected also.
President Posey said the topics and training sessions for subcommittees will be established during Fall Semester, and a call for additional subcommittee members will occur.
