May 21, 2021

This week the Cincinnati State Financial Aid Office informed students who may qualify about a new program that provides discounts for internet service and computer equipment.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program offered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is intended to provide temporary help for families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, eligible students can receive:

  • A discount of up to $50 a month on broadband Wi-Fi service and associated equipment.

  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.

All CState students who are currently Pell eligible were notified by email about the new program. Additional Information is available at https://getemergencybroadband.org.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program started enrolling applicants on May 12 and will continue until all funds are used, or 6 months after the public health emergency is ended as declared by the Department of Health and Human Services.
