Feb 5, 2021

Karen Jones is Cincinnati State’s new Bursar/Treasury Director.

She started at the College on Jan. 19, and is taking over from Dan Ramsey, who will be retiring from CState at the end of February after more than 30 years of service.

Karen earned a BBA in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati, and has over 30 years of higher education experience.

  • She began her professional career with Union Institute & University in 1989 as the Staff Accountant and held several positions in the Business Office including Budget Director, Associate Controller, and Controller.

  • At Union, Karen’s accomplishments included implementing a system of student refunds via direct deposit that achieved 75% enrollment, and serving as co-chair for Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaccreditation activities.

Karen has two adult children who are Cincinnati State grads: Kyle is a Firefighter/Paramedic employed with the city of Pensacola, FL; Katie works for UC in the HVAC Department where her degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology has served her well.

In 2008, Karen earned a certificate in Scuba Diving at Cincinnati State and she prides herself on being the best diver in the College’s 10-foot pool!

In May, Karen will marry her fiancé, Mark Funke, a saxophone player with the Kim Kelly Orchestra, and she says she is looking forward to becoming Karen Funke.

With her daughter, Karen recently purchased a house in Cold Spring, KY and is knee-deep in demo and renovations, with an expected move-in date in September 2021.
