Board of Trustees elects new officers

George Vincent was elected Chair of the Cincinnati State Board of Trustees at the board’s meeting on Jan. 26.

  • Mr. Vincent is the managing partner and chairman of Greater Cincinnati’s largest law firm, Dinsmore & Shohl LLP.
     
  • He serves currently and has served in the past as a volunteer board member and chair for a number of regional arts, health care, and economic development organizations, among others.
     
  • Mr. Vincent joined the Cincinnati State Board of Trustees in 2014 and has been vice chair since 2018.

Other newly-elected Board officers are Vice Chair John Silverman and Secretary Justin Howe.

  • Mr. Silverman is the managing principal for the Cincinnati Office of Midland Atlantic Properties.
     
  • Mr. Howe is the senior human resources manager for digital technology for General Electric.

Cincinnati State also honored outgoing Board of Trustees Chair Mark Walton at the meeting.

  • Mr. Walton is a Wealth Management Advisor for Fifth Third Bank. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of Cincinnati State (graduated in 1978) and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.
     
  • Mr. Walton has served as a Cincinnati State Trustee since 1995, including several terms as vice chair or chair. He also served as Chair of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, in addition to other community service. He will continue as a member of the College’s Board of Trustees.

President Monica Posey said, “I want to thank Mark for the tremendous support and leadership over the years.”

“With his help the College has increased student success and our economic impact on Greater Cincinnati. Now we are pleased and excited that George will be assuming the office of Board Chair as we continue to advance.”

Community college trustees are appointed by the Governor of the State of Ohio and serve a term of six years, which may be extended through reappointment by the Governor.
