Students enrolled in two sections of PSY 110 (Introduction to Psychology) and students from three sections of ESL 052 (English as a Second Language Level 2), will present posters that summarize the results of collaborative research projects conducted this semester.
Members of the College community are invited to visit the poster displays and learn about the research topics and how students managed group dynamics during the 13-week project.
A total of 18 student teams will present their work. Two poster presentations take place on Dec. 3:
- 9 to 10 a.m. in Main 113
- noon to 1 p.m. in ATLC 313
To carry out the collaborative research project, titled "We Are Cincinnati State," students formed teams that included group members from the Psychology and ESL classes. Teams then selected a social justice topic as the focus for group research.
- Each element of the project was aligned with course learning outcomes for ESL 052 and PSY 110.
- Project-related assignments for ESL classes helped build students' written and spoken communication skills.
- Psychology class assignments required students to apply social psychological concepts such as managing interpersonal processes and countering attribution biases and prejudice.
This semester is the second time instructors Maggie Oliveira and Heather Hatchett have used the collaborative course project as a new teaching method for students in the two courses.
