Joint Community Campaign wraps up on Oct. 15 with prize drawing

The Cincinnati State 2021 Joint Community Campaign pledge drive on behalf of United Way and Community Shares concludes on Friday, Oct. 15.

Your one-time gift or continuing pledge via payroll deduction will help provide needed support and assistance for diverse organizations throughout our community.

Everyone who turns in a gift or pledge by Friday will be entered into a drawing to win one of four exciting prizes:

  • A $50 gift card for the Montgomery Inn
     
  • Lunch at the Summit Restaurant with President Monica Posey on Tuesday, Nov. 2. (Three winners will be selected to join Dr. Posey for lunch)

  • You may pledge to one or both organizations, using payroll deduction or by making a one-time gift by check.
     
  • For both United Way and Community Shares pledges, if you wish you may select specific community organizations to be recipients of your donations. (Organizations are listed on page 2 of the pledge form.)

For payroll deduction, return your completed pledge form by email to Kim Taylor (kim.taylor@cincinnatistate.edu).

  • If you are writing a check, send your form and check to Kim Taylor, Alumni and Development Affairs Manager, Cincinnati State, 3520 Central Parkway, ATLC 337, Cincinnati, OH  45223.
     
  • If you are on Clifton Campus you may drop off your form in ATLC Room 352.

The Joint Community Campaign is one of three annual internal giving campaigns at Cincinnati State, along with the Annual Fund Campaign and the ArtsWave campaign.

  • Cincinnati State President Monica Posey serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the United Way Board of Directors.
     
    Cincinnati State Trustee Barbara Turner is the Chair of the United Way Board and Trustee George Vincent also is a member of the United Way Board's Executive Committee.

BMI and SGA host Cinti City Council candidate forum on Oct. 14

Cincinnati State's Black Male Initiative organization and the Student Government Association are co-hosting a Cincinnati City Council Candidate Forum on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Conference Center (Main 343) on Clifton Campus.

At least 12 City Council candidates are expected to attend. (Click to view information about participating candidates)

Students and College employees are invited to attend the event, which will include greetings from President Monica Posey.

  • Shane Winslow, President of Cincinnati State Student Government, will moderate the event.
     
  • Candidates will be asked to respond to questions submitted by Cincinnati State students.

Planning is in process to make the Forum available via video-- look for more information prior to the event on the Student Activities Facebook page.

In addition to attending the Forum, students are invited to enter an essay-writing contest, which will offer prizes for the best essays addressing the topic "Why is it important for Cincinnati State to host political forums like this one?"

Reminder: College Drive closed on Oct. 15

On Friday, Oct, 15, College Drive will be completely closed to all vehicles, starting at 4 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m., because of the fire loop repair project.

If you (or your students) are on Clifton Campus on Fridays and typically park in Lot A or Lot D, please be aware that you'll need to choose a different parking location on Oct. 15. The parking garages and Lot C will be available.

Condolences to Stan Hines

A celebration of life for Napoleon "Po" Hines, the son of Stan Hines (Facilities Maintenance Technician), will take place on Monday, Oct. 18.

Viewing is from 10 to 11 a.m. at Consolation Baptist Church, 1449 Marlowe Ave., Cincinnati, 45224, followed by services at 11 a.m.

Messages of condolence may be shared at the Legacy.com website.

CState provides ASL interpreting for Mental Health event

Dawn Caudill, Program Chair for Interpreter Training, will serve as the ASL Interpreter for an online Townhall on Mental Health sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) of Greater Cincinnati on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Representatives from several Cincinnati-based organizations will discuss issues related to Mental Health and the LGBTQ+ community, and share information about resources and tips for healthier living that can be used on a daily basis.

Organizers said they hope the event will help attendees "feel empowered, refreshed, and better equipped to face the challenges that life throws at us."

Cybersecurity Awareness Month tips: How to Fight Phishing

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Cincinnati State's Information Technology Services Department encourages all employees and students to refresh your knowledge of how to stay safe online.

Cybersecurity attacks or lapses can happen when you are at work, at home, at school, or on the go with your digital devices.

The theme (and hashtag) for the month is #BeCyberSmart, and the focus for the second week is "Fight the Phish".
