CARES Act Funds available for Fall students

Cincinnati State students enrolled for Fall classes are now eligible to apply for money from the Federal CARES Act Emergency Grant Fund.

Students enrolled for 6 credit hours or more for Fall Semester 2020 will be informed this week by email about applying for CARES Act funding.

Funds are limited and are available to students on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To receive emergency grant funding, students must apply electronically by logging in to MyCState/MyServices and completing the CARES Act Emergency Grant Funding Application in the Financial Aid section.

    • Students enrolled for 6 to 11 credits in Fall semester are eligible to receive up to $500 in emergency funds.
       
    • Students enrolled for 12 credits or more in Fall semester are eligible to receive up to $1,600 in emergency funds.

To be eligible for the emergency funds, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and send the FAFSA information to Cincinnati State.

      • Students not currently receiving financial aid are eligible to apply for emergency grant funds.
         
      • Students who are receiving financial aid must be in compliance with standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to receive emergency grant funds.

      • CARES Act funding is for Cincinnati State students enrolled in a degree or certificate program who have experienced unexpected expenses due to the disruption of campus operations because of COVID-19.
         
      • The emergency grant assistance for allowable expenses will be provided in accordance with institutional policy and guidance from the U.S. Department of Education.
         
      • Students eligible for the funds will receive a paper check mailed to their permanent address on file in College records. The time between submitting the application and a check being mailed is expected to be three weeks or less.

Students not eligible to apply for emergency grant funds include:

    • College Credit Plus students
    • Workforce Development students
    • Non Degree students
    • International students
    • DACA students

Marketing Response Team seeks volunteers for outreach to students

The Marketing & Enrollment Response Team is seeking volunteers to help boost Fall 2020 enrollment through outreach to prospective students.

The outreach project seeks to reach over 1,000 prospective students who, as of mid-July, have been admitted to CState, but haven't yet registered for Fall 2020 classes.

Faculty Senate President Lesli Rice, a co-chair of the Marketing & Enrollment Response Team, said, "The goal of the project is to provide additional support for outreach already happening through the academic divisions."

"If we succeed, we can boost Fall enrollment and tuition revenue, and make a difference in the lives of more students," Lesli said.

Volunteers will contact prospective students via text message, using a script to organize the information in the message.

The text messages will give prospective students a personal connection to the College, information about available CARES Act funds, and information on how to get started with academic advising.

  • Volunteers can set your own schedule for completing outreach activities during the next 2 or 3 weeks.
     
  • If you don't want to use your own phone, you can get help setting up a Google Voice Line (a free phone number app that can be used on any smart phone or computer).

To volunteer, send an email message this week to FacultySenate@cincinnatistate.edu.

  • The Faculty Senate is coordinating the outreach initiative, but all College employees are welcome to assist.

The Marketing & Enrollment Response Team was established in May 2020 and charged with making recommendations for marketing and enrollment strategies during the pandemic recovery period (June 2020-December 2021).

The Response Team work supplements activities of the College's Marketing Department.
