CState offers in-person student services starting today; employees have increased access to Clifton Campus
Effective today, June 29, prospective students and current students who want in-person assistance with admission, registration, financial aid, and other services can visit College offices Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Clifton Campus offices in the ATLC that are providing in-person services include:
- Welcome Center (Admissions)
- Career Center
- Financial Aid Office
- Registrar's Office
- Student Activities (to provide SurgeCard IDs and Metro Cards)
New and current students also will be able to get in-person assistance making appointments for academic advising. Representatives from the academic divisions will provide help from ATLC locations.
The Central Parkway Garage is available free of charge. College Drive will remain closed.
According to VP of Workforce Development Amy Waldbillig, who also oversees enrollment services, offering in-person services provides equity for prospective or current students who may not own the technology needed to navigate online services.
"Also, for many students, being able to talk with someone in person can make a big difference in getting their college experience off to a good start," Waldbillig said.
For the safety of students and employees, enhanced sanitation and disinfection procedures and Plexiglas safety barriers are now used in public areas.
- Students seeking in-person assistance are expected to observe appropriate social distancing at all times, and not come to campus if they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the previous 14 days.
- In addition, visitors to campus are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings.
VP of Administration Lawra Baumann said the decision to reopen some in-person services came after extensive planning on how to best support all students in achieving their educational goals while also adhering to CDC, state, and local safety guidelines related to COVID-19.
"As with all of our plans for returning to campus, we are approaching this phase carefully and with safety as the first priority," Baumann said.
Also starting June 29, Clifton Campus buildings are accessible to employees Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
During this time period, several entrances will be open:
- ATLC Welcome Center doors
- ATLC east doors leading to Main Building
- HPB sliding doors leading to Main Building
- Main Building west doors leading to ATLC
- Main Building northeast doors leading to HPB
- Main Building Dock entrance
Access to campus buildings before 7:30 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m. will continue to be limited to the Main Building Dock entrance.
Employees on campus are expected to follow the protocols in the Employee Code of Personal Responsibility. These guidelines include:
- self-monitoring and self-certifying personal health
- wearing required face coverings when walking hallways, visiting restrooms, and passing through communal public areas
- observing all social distancing requirements
- contributing to daily cleaning and disinfecting of work spaces
Employee access to classrooms and labs remains restricted.
- Anyone not already teaching on-campus this summer who needs access to labs and classrooms must continue to make the request through their Dean or Manager, who will forward the request to an Executive Team Member.
- Requests are subject to the approval of the Provost and/or the Vice President of Administration and will be confirmed in writing.

Leadership Awards presented to 30 students for 2020 achievements
Adrian Harris (right) received the President's Uplift Award for 2020 and Erin Ford (below right) received the Student Leader of the Year Award for 2020.
Adrian and Erin were part of a group of 30 Cincinnati State students who were recognized for their contributions to the College during the 2019-20 academic year.
Student award recipients received their awards via postal mail in May, since it was not possible to hold the annual Student Awards recognition event this spring.
The full list of award recipients is below, and you can download a list of the recipients, with pictures of the award winners.
Each award winner received a certificate, a congratulatory letter from Dr. Posey, and a copy of the nomination submitted on their behalf.
The Student Leader of the Year and President's Uplift Award winners also received a crystal award.
- Club and organization award recipients were nominated by organization advisors.
- Divisional award recipients were nominated by faculty members and academic administrators in the divisions. Up to three graduating students could be nominated by each division.
- The Student Leader of the Year is chosen by Student Activities from all of the students who were nominated by advisors for organization awards. The award recognizes a student who "goes above and beyond" in serving their club, its members, and their community.
- The President's Uplift Award recipient is selected by President Monica Posey from nominations submitted by club advisors and other faculty members. The award recipient must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, must be an active member of at least one student organization, and must have completed voluntary club and community service.
Nana Yaa Gyaa Agyemang (below right) and Michelle Willoughby (below left) were recognized for their selection to the All-Ohio Community College Academic Team for 2020. Both received $250 scholarships as members of the Third Team.
Nearly 70 students from Ohio's 23 community colleges were nominated by their institutions for the Academic Team.
The Academic Team recognition is sponsored by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and event sponsor Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc.
Students are selected based on excellence in academics, leadership, and community service.
The annual luncheon and awards ceremony in Columbus for Academic Team members was cancelled this year.

Provost Robbin Hoopes is hosting a weekly Academic Update, open to all College employees who wish to attend, on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
The weekly sessions continue through August 11.

Condolences to the family of Ray DiPilla
Retired faculty member Reginangelo "Ray" DiPilla died March 19, 2020.
Ray retired from Cincinnati State in 1999 after serving for over 20 years as program chair and professor in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technologies.
Ray was nominated by his peers several times to receive the House-Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award, and he led or contributed to numerous College committees, initiatives, and governance activities.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Check for Air Quality Alerts this week
Yesterday was an Air Quality Alert Day in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana, and the forecast for the week is hot and humid-- so if you're going outside, remember to take your mask, and remember that accurate and detailed air quality information is available every day at the Air Quality Index.
The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency (which employs CState Environmental Engineering Technology interns and graduates) uses seven ozone monitors-- located throughout Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties-- to collect air quality data 24 hours a day.
On Air Quality Alert days, you can help reduce ozone formation by taking these actions:
- When possible, take the bus, carpool, bike, or walk instead of driving.
- Refuel your vehicle after 8 p.m., do not top off when refueling, and tighten the gas cap.
- Do not idle your vehicle; exhaust contributes considerably to ozone formation.
- Combine trips or eliminate unnecessary vehicle trips.
- Keep your vehicle maintained with properly inflated tires and timely oil changes.
- Avoid use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment on Air Quality Alert days.
- Avoid use of oil-based paints and stains on Air Quality Alert days.
- Never burn leaves or other yard trimmings.
- Suspend use of fire pits, campfires, and charcoal grills on Air Quality Alert days.
- Conserve electricity by turning out lights and unplugging unused appliances and electronics.
