"Apply4StudentRelief" web page is launched
Cincinnati State students now have a "one-stop" online location to learn about a variety of emergency funds available from the College.
The web page "Apply for Student Relief Funds" (https://www.cincinnatistate.edu/apply4studentrelief) outlines several forms of financial assistance for students who are facing challenges and need help with:
- Emergency funds for shelter, food, medicine, and other basics.
- Short-term assistance with tuition and fees.
- Technology needed for completing courses remotely.
- Other emergency needs
The institutional emergency funds include:
Student Retention Focus Fund: Provides financial assistance to students at risk of dropping out because of unexpected financial setbacks, like loss of a job, a health crisis, transportation and child care costs, or hardships with rent or utilities. Funds are paid directly to the vendor (for instance, doctor, landlord, child care provider, utility company, etc.)
- Eligibility: Taking at least 9 credit hours, with cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Must submit FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to Office of Financial Aid to determine financial need.
Charles E. Schell Foundation Loan Program: An interest-free loan program, designed as a pay-it-forward fund to help qualified students to secure a practical education that, without the loans, may not be otherwise attainable. Funds can be paid for tuition and fees or directly to a vendor.
- Eligibility: Age 18 to 25, with cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, citizen of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia or adjoining states, with parents of moderate means who are also citizens of these states. Students must be honest, upright, intelligent, of practical appearance, and loyal to the United States and its institutions including the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
General Student Relief Fund: Provides financial assistance to eligible students in emergency situations if funding is not available through other emergency funds and/or College financial and payment plan arrangements.
- Eligibility: Assistance is provided based on need
To apply for assistance from any of these funds, students (or employees filling out a request on behalf of a student) should use the Student Relief Fund eForm available at https://web3.cincinnatistate.edu/eforms/eform.aspx?form_id=1941.
The "Apply for Student Relief Funds" web page also provides information about how to apply for a loaner laptop computer and/or Wi-Fi hotspot, how to get information about College scholarships, and how to apply for CARES Act funds.

Spotlight on Service: Co-op student helps keep Rumpke running
Accounting student James Adleta (above, with his supervisor, Teresa Irvine) was hired as an accounting co-op at Rumpke in Fall Semester 2019, and within one month he was offered a full-time position in the company's Accounting Department.
James completed his Fall co-op assignment and registered for his final semester of co-op for Spring Semester 2020.
Co-op Coordinator Maya Franklin reported that during a Spring Semester virtual site visit with James and his supervisor, she learned that James was a vital contributor to the Rumpke accounting team during the early months of the pandemic.
Maya said, "James' role increased tremendously in workload and responsibility."
"His day-to-day job duties included communicating by phone with vendors, employees, and customers; doing data entry; scheduling payments; sorting Accounts Payable mail; verifying invoices for proper coding; reconciling vendor statements, and assisting others when needed."
"James had to stretch himself professionally and personally," Maya added. "He will celebrate his one-year anniversary with Rumpke in August, and I'm excited to see what's in store for him in the future."
Maya also noted that James is one of several Cincinnati State graduates working in the Accounting Department at Rumpke (see photo below)-- clearly a company that is providing tremendous support for the College's co-op program.

Support Group for parenting concerns offered to employees
The Cincinnati State Employee Assistance Program facilitated by Tri-Health is offering support groups this week for parents who wish to exchange concerns, frustrations, and successful ideas with others, in a supportive environment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed and increased the intensity of roles as parent, employee, teacher, child, and partner, so it's OK if you feel like you need some help or support.
The support group is open to Cincinnati State employees and their spouse/partner. You may connect by phone or videoconference.
Two opportunities to participate are available, with a limit of 20 participants for each 2-session series.
- Series 1 - Tuesdays, June 9 and 23, noon to 1 p.m.
- Series 2 - Thursdays, June 4 and 18, 3 to 4 p.m.
The sessions are facilitated by Shelly Schadick, LPCC, TriHealth EAP Specialty Treatment Coordinator. Shelly is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and has 24 years of experience in the Employee Assistance field.
