Commencement is postponed

The following message from President Monica Posey was distributed to Cincinnati State employees and students via email on Monday, April 6, 2020.

The message is reprinted here in case you missed it:

Dear Cincinnati State Student,

Everything we have learned about the coronavirus (Covid-19) tells us we must continue working together to slow its spread.

To that end, we’re sorry to announce that we are postponing Cincinnati State's Commencement ceremony scheduled for May 3.

Postponing the ceremony will NOT delay you receiving the certificate or diploma you earned, if you have completed all requirements.

We did not make this decision lightly. Many of you have overcome great challenges to reach Commencement day. It will be a joy and an honor to celebrate these achievements with you and your family.

We have set August 9 as the new date for our 2020 Cincinnati State Commencement.

We will go forward with the new date only if our government officials, our College community, and Cintas Center managers are convinced it is once again safe for large groups to gather. We will keep you informed about any changes as we get closer to the date.

But please mark your calendar. We look forward to joining together to celebrate the beginning of your next success, and also celebrate the efforts of our College and community to overcome the unprecedented challenge we now face.

Dr. Monica Posey

Spotlight on Service: Ruth Miller

Ruth Miller (Finance Office) is busy sewing masks, like those above, as part of the "Sewing Soldiers of Dearborn County."

The masks are donated to medical workers in need of Personal Protective Devices.

Ruth said she is making about 50 masks per week.

The "Sewing Soldiers" began with a single seamstress in Aurora, Indiana, and quickly grew to include many others who are assisting by sewing, taking orders, and making deliveries.

In addition to helping healthcare workers in Dearborn County, Indiana, the "Sewing Soldiers" have sent masks to many other healthcare workers in the tristate area.

For more information, see this article at

Daily News salutes Ruth for dedicating her time and skills to helping those on the front lines of fighting the pandemic.

CState design student wins District ADDY award

Graphic Design student Julia Kennedy has been notified she is the recipient of a Silver American Advertising Award (ADDY) in the District Five student competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation.

Julia's winning poster, "California Wildlife," previously won the Best of Show award in the 2020 Cincinnati Student ADDY competition.

Cincinnati State is part of the Fifth District of the American Advertising Federation, representing professional advertising associations and college chapters throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

As a District Silver award winner, Julia's poster qualifies for the National Student ADDY competition.

The national competition currently is scheduled for early June.

The American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) is one of the advertising industry's largest and most representative competitions, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Ad Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
