Career & Co-op Job Fair on Oct. 3
The Cincinnati State Career Center and the divisional Co-op programs will host the student Career and Co-op Job Fair on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Main Conference Center (Room 342) on Clifton Campus.
More than 30 employers are registered to attend. Students can learn more about the skills these employers are seeking at the online CState CareerLink https://cincinnatistate-csm.symplicity.com/students.

First Fridays on Oct. 4 examines Parenting Resource Center
The First Fridays professional development program on Oct. 4 focuses on the Parenting Resource Center, a College service designed to help students who are parents, or take a parental role, to manage and maintain balance of their school requirements and parental responsibilities.
Denise Gabrelski, Coordinator of Cincinnati State's Parenting Resource Center, and Sandy Owen, Program Chair for Early Childhood Education, will provide information on how to connect students who are also parenting with the available resources.
Other presentation topics include understanding the Title IX standards that apply to pregnant and parenting students, and sharing ideas about how to support these students while maintaining academic integrity of courses.
- First Fridays takes place from 3 to 4 p.m., and is open to all College employees.
- The program on Oct. 4 will take place in the Parenting Resource Center, Room 135-B in the Main Building on Clifton Campus.
The Parenting Resource Center at CState also administers the Child Care Access Means Parents in School grant (CCAMPIS), a federally-funded program that supports Pell-grant eligible students with gap funding for child care.
The First Fridays Professional Development series is sponsored by the Faculty Senate's Professional Development Committee. Presentation topics cover varied information related to best practices, research, or key professional experiences in teaching and learning.
ENGAGE is Oct. 10 & 11; Ambassadors still needed for Oct. 11
ENGAGE | Students 2019 -- one of the College's premier recruiting events-- will take place Thursday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 11.
- The ENGAGE Community Open House is Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Conference Center on Clifton Campus.
Over 400 guests (half of them high school students) have pre-registered for this evening event, which features displays and interaction with faculty and staff members representing the College's academic programs and support services.
- The daytime ENGAGE | Students event is Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. About 400 high school students are pre-registered for this event.
All ENGAGE events for 2019-2020 are sponsored by GE Aviation.
Volunteers are still needed to serve as "ENGAGE Ambassadors" on Oct. 11.
Each Ambassador will lead a group of 20 visiting students (and their teachers/chaperones) around campus to learn more about Cincinnati State, view and/or participate in demonstrations, and meet faculty and staff members from the academic programs and student support services departments.

Cooke Scholarship receipient provides info session on Oct. 8
All CState students who are considering transfer to a 4-year school after attaining an associate's degree are invited to an information session about the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
Cincinnati State Honors Program graduate and Jack Kent Cooke scholarship recipient Tina Schirmer, currently majoring in Aeronautical and Astronomical Engineering at Purdue University, is returning to the College to provide the information session on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the ATLC Auditorium (ATLC 211).
Tina (near right, with faculty member Abbey Yee), was the first-ever student from Cincinnati to receive the Cooke Transfer Scholarship, and was one of only 55 students chosen from a national pool of nearly 3,000 applicants.
In addition to her studies at Purdue, Tina is participating in the NASA Pathways Internship Employment Program, where she is working with a group that is improving nuclear power generation capabilities for space probes.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awards Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships to "the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities."
- Students selected as Cooke Scholars receive two to three years of financial support of up to $40,000 a year.
- Cooke Scholars also receive college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to network with fellow scholars.
- After earning a bachelor’s degree, each Cooke Scholar may be eligible for a scholarship for graduate school worth up to $50,000 a year for up to four years.
- To be selected as Cooke Transfer Scholars, applicants must demonstrate strong records of academic achievement as shown by their grades, leadership skills, awards, extraordinary service to others, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
- The scholarship application deadline this year is Nov. 20, 2019.
At the information session, Tina will describe the experience of applying for and receiving this scholarship.
The event also will cover scholarship eligibility, details on how to apply, and tips for the application process.
Enjoy Employee Happy Hour on Oct. 4
All College employees are invited to enjoy a Happy Hour in the Summit Restaurant (2nd floor of ATLC), on Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 4 p.m.
Stop by for conversation with friends, while sipping a purchased beverage, and snacking on complimentary light refreshments.
Happy Hour follows the First Fridays professional development presentation that is taking place in the Parenting Resource Center, Main 135B-- so you'll get a chance to build up a thirst as you walk briskly from the far reaches of Main first floor all the way to the Summit.
Blackboard and Network Services interrupted Oct. 4-6
Information Technology Services will be performing several maintenance and upgrade projects on Friday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 6.
- Blackboard will be inaccessible on Friday, Oct. 4, between midnight and 6 a.m., for scheduled maintenance.
- All network and computer services and regular phone services at the Workforce Development Center (Evendale campus) will be inaccessible on Saturday, Oct. 5, between 3 and 6:30 p.m., so network equipment can be upgraded. Only emergency phone services will be in operation.
- All internet network services, College-wide, will be offline on Saturday, Oct. 5, between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., so network equipment on Clifton Campus can be upgraded. Internet connectivity will not be available during this time period.
- All network services, College-wide will be offline on Sunday, Oct. 6, between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m., so network equipment can be upgraded at the College’s Internet Service Providers (ISP) location. Network services will be unavailable during this time period.
Information Technologies Services asks that you plan in advance for these disruptions of services.
Instructors may want to share information with students about the interruptions of service.
I-75 & I-74 Construction Update (Oct. 2-3)
The Ohio Department of Transportation has scheduled overnight projects near the Clifton Campus related to major reconstruction of I-75 & I-74.
Wednesday, Oct. 2 -
- Single-lane closure on east I-74 from Montana Avenue to I-75 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday, October 3.
- Single lane closures on south and north I-75 between Monmouth Street and Mitchell Avenue from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
- Short-term full closures on I-75 and I-74 within the construction zone from midnight until 4 a.m. Thursday. Traffic will be maintained with law enforcement officers.
Thursday, Oct. 3 -
- Single lane closures on east I-74 from Montana Avenue to I-75 from 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday, October 4.
- Short-term full closures on I-75 and I-74 within the construction zone from midnight until 4 a.m. Friday, October 4. Traffic will be maintained with law enforcement officers.
Arrow boards and/or signs will alert motorists of the work zone and restrictions. All work is contingent upon the weather.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed, and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone. Remember, move over or slow down.
