Social media contest for #CStateSpirit2019 ends June 30
College employees have only a few more weeks to win valuable cash prizes by showing your #CStateSpirit2019 (and your CState spiritwear) on your social media accounts.
The contest ends June 30, 2019. Until then, you can continue to share on your social media accounts photos or video of yourself in public, wearing CState attire that includes the official College logo (like the t-shirt Kathy Moore is wearing in the photo above).
It's even better if your social media post shows you along with a prospective student or others who aren't already familiar with the College.
- To "count" for the contest, your social media post must include the hashtag #CStateSpirit2019.
- Each photo or video you post (along with the #CStateSpirit2019 hashtag) will count as a separate entry-- provided that you're not repeating the same image, and provided that you're wearing "official" Cincinnati State gear that includes the College logo.
- Remember, the College Marketing Department needs to be able to see your post-- so if your social media account is set to "private," you'll need to change the setting or send a link to Web/Digital Manager Amy Wagner (email@example.com), so she can "count" your entry.
After the campaign ends on June 30, winners will be selected randomly from all qualified entries that have been posted. Prizes are: $250 VISA card (1st prize), $100 VISA card (2nd prize), and $50 VISA card (3rd prize).
Any time you're showing off Cincinnati State's name while you're in public, you're helping to build recognition for the College, and opening possibilities for a conversation about what CState has to offer.
So even if you don't enter the contest, please show off your CState attire when you're off campus-- and continue to show off spiritwear (with any version of the CState name and/or logo) on campus on Fridays.
The Secret Spirit Spotter will be seeking spirited colleagues in June to reward with CState stuff-- as happened for recently-spotted spirited folks like Kathy Moore (above) and Geoff Woolf (below), who received CState earbuds.

Yvonne Baker is Interim Dean of Business Division
Professor Yvonne Baker, a Cincinnati State faculty member for nearly 20 years, has been appointed to serve as Interim Dean of the Business Technologies Division. She started her new assignment May 1, after the retirement of former Dean Linda Schaffeld.
Provost Robbin Hoopes said, "I am very grateful that Yvonne is bringing her experience as teaching faculty and co-op faculty, as well as her unique expertise, to this challenging role."
"The Business Technologies Division has a history of leadership and innovation," Provost Hoopes added. "Yvonne has already stepped in to ensure continued momentum of current BTD initiatives, including improving learning outcomes assessment, obtaining HLC approval for the bachelor's degree in Culinary & Food Science, and ensuring that co-op remains an integral part of the student experience for all BTD career and transfer programs."
Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Morehead State University (Kentucky), and a Masters of Accountancy from Northern Kentucky University.
She also completed courses at the University of Phoenix in School Finance for Educators and School Law for Educators.
Yvonne holds past licensing as an Ohio Certified Public Accountant and is currently licensed as an Ohio School Treasurer.
Yvonne joined the College as an Accounting faculty member in 2000, and has taught courses including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Federal Taxation, Payroll Procedures, Computerized Accounting Applications, and Financial Statement Analysis.
Her teaching experience includes face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and she has developed or co-developed several online courses.
Yvonne also has served recently as coordinator for the Real Estate Certificate program, and as an advisor for students in the Accounting and Real Estate programs.
From 2011 to 2014, Yvonne served as the cooperative education coordinator for the Accounting program as well as for Business Financial Services and Pre-Business Administration.
Yvonne has been nominated three times for the House-Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award. Her College service includes the Tenure Committee, the Learning Outcomes Committee, and the Peer Mentoring Advisory Committee, as well as many other collegewide and divisional committees and task forces.
She also provides tutoring in Financial Accounting through the College Tutoring Center.
Yvonne has served as an officer and bargaining team member for the Cincinnati State AAUP Chapter.
Currently, Yvonne is President of the Board of Education for the Felicity-Franklin Local School District (Felicity, Ohio), where she has been a member of the Board of Education since 2012.
She also served as a Board of Education member for Grant Career Center (Bethel, Ohio) from 2013 to 2016.
Prior to joining the College, Yvonne was a staff accountant at Novikoff, Manheimer & Co. in Cincinnati.
Sen. Rob Portman spoke at WDC training program graduation
Senator Rob Portman was the graduation speaker at the ceremony held June 3 at River City Correctional Center in Camp Washington, where 11 women inmates completed logistics certification training offered by Cincinnati State’s Workforce Development Center.
Sen. Portman said, “It was an honor to participate in the graduation ceremony, and I’m proud of the women who have worked hard to prepare themselves for a bright future."
Trina Jackson, director of the Hamilton County Office of Reentry, said, "This program is the result of a conversation I had with Brian Jaynes of Cincinnati State."
"Now we are here for our second graduation," she added. "To our graduates, this tells me you want this for yourself and your family. I commend you."
The training program graduates, who completed a 45-contact-hour Supply Chain and Logistics course delivered on site at River City, earned credentials from the Manufacturing Skill Standard Council as Certified Logistics Associates and Certified Logistics Technicians.
- The women attended a 5-hour class each Saturday for nine weeks, and each took two 90-minute tests to earn their credentials.
- They can also receive college credits for the course if they enroll at Cincinnati State to further their education.
The women are now qualified to apply for jobs at warehouse/logistic facilities in the area after their release from the Correctional Center.
According to Correctional Center officials, jobs have been lined up for all of the participants, including positions with Design Within Reach, Nehemiah Manufacturing, and Club Chef.
The training program was organized by the Hamilton County Office of Reentry in partnership with River City and Cincinnati State, and is funded in part by the PNC Foundation.
"For those coming out of the criminal justice system, it makes sense to help them reenter the workforce," said Sen. Portman. "Now we're seeing that some of these great programs—like this one—are working."
"Cincinnati State has been a leader in the area of short-term certificates," Sen. Portman continued. "What the College is doing is important for the community."
Sen. Portman said he is favor of extending Pell Grants to include short-term certificates and he hopes to include this funding in upcoming federal legislation such as the bipartisan Jobs Act of 2019.

Join the "Fitness Friday" walk on June 21
The Celebrating Community Committee invites all employees to lace up your walking shoes and burn off your stress on "Fitness Friday," scheduled for Friday, June 21.
- Participants should plan to meet at the flagpole in front of the Main Building at noon on June 21.
- The group will walk to Valley Park in Camp Washington (less than a mile from Clifton Campus).
- Bring a healthy lunch or snack, and a drink.
- The group will return to campus no later than 2 p.m., and fast walkers will probably return sooner.
If June 21 is a bad weather day, the walk will be rescheduled for June 28.

More "Admit Me" Days available for new students
The Admission Office has expanded the schedule of Admit Me Days offered this summer to help new students complete the admission process and register for Fall classes.
In addition to Admit Me Days already planned for Saturday, July 13, and Saturday, Aug. 3, additional options are:
- Thursday, June 13 - 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 25 - 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Monday, July 22 - 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
If you'd like to volunteer to assist new students on any of these days, you can click this link to sign up.
If you're not able to sign up, please welcome the new students you encounter on these dates, and help them with directions to the Welcome Center, the Testing Center, or to a division office for advising.
Blackboard service interruption on June 14
On Friday, June 14, between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m., Blackboard will be performing system maintenance, which will result in an interruption of service.
Instructors, please be sure your students are informed about this brief interruption.
