Don't forget Donut Day on June 7
Today, June 5, at noon, is your deadline for pre-ordering donuts in support of Bakery Hill and National Donut Day, the annual fundraising project sponsored by the Salvation Army and the Greater Cincinnati Retail Bakers Association.
Download the order form to pre-order a box of 6 glazed donuts for $3.00, and take the form to Bakery Hill ASAP.
- Pre-ordered donuts will be ready for pick-up between 7:30 a.m. and noon on Friday, June 7.
- You can buy glazed donuts on Friday for 50 cents each, while supplies last.
- If your diet doesn't allow donuts, you can add a donation to the Salvation Army Red Kettle located at Bakery Hill.
- All students and employees also are welcome to join the National Donut Day festivities on Friday at Fountain Square from noon to 1 p.m.
College volunteers will assist in distributing free donuts on the Square, and everyone can cheer for Dr. Jason Laffery, Executive Chef of the Midwest Culinary Institute, who will represent Cincinnati State in the annual Donut Stacking contest.
National Donut Day was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army as a tribute to the "Donut Lassies" volunteers who prepared donuts for thousands of soldiers during World War I.
- Every year, 10 billion donuts are consumed in the U.S., generating $3.6 billion in sales.
- However, Canadians eat more donuts (annually) than any other country in the world.
- And it's OK to indulge -- a plain cake donut (on average) has only 120 calories.

Cincy 4 Christ Club seeks donations for Dayton-area Tornado Relief
The Cincy 4 Christ Club at Cincinnati State is asking members of the College community to consider donating bottled water, personal care supplies, cleaning products, and other items to assist people who were affected by the Memorial Day tornados in Dayton and Celina.
Donations will be collected in the Student Activities Office (ATLC 204) until June 24.
Matthew 25 Ministries will pick up the donations and coordinate the distribution process.
Items needed include:
- Non-perishable food in pull-top containers, and bottled water
- Personal care supplies: soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, and toothbrushes
- Baby and infant supplies: formula, diapers, and wipes
- Cleaning products: detergent and dish soap
- Home item: towels, sheets, and blankets
- Gift cards that can be used to purchase needed item, and gas cards

Reminder: Sick Leave Cash-In deadline is June 12
Full-time College employees who have more than 35 days of accumulated sick leave and/or personal leave, and have not used all of the leave days allocated for this year, may "cash-in" unused days (receive a cash payment) at the end of the fiscal year.
The "cash-in" request may include up to half of the unused annual sick/personal leave days-- provided that the employee's remaining balance of accumulated leave will be 35 days or more.
- AAUP Unit 1 faculty may cash-in a maximum of 6.5 days
- AAUP Unit 2 faculty may cash-in a maximum of 8 days
- Other eligible employees may cash-in a maximum of 7.5 days
To submit a "cash-in" request, fill out this form and return it to the Payroll Department by Wednesday, June 12.

Leadership students created Little Free Libraries for local organizations
In Spring Semester, students in the Leadership Certificate Capstone class completed a project to construct and donate Little Free Libraries to the NECCO Foster Care Agency (for the 3-5 year old room and the 6-11 year old room) and to Lighthouse Youth & Family Services Mecum House.
Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity, by promoting public book-sharing worldwide.
Students involved in the project were (above, from left) Catie Stankorb, Aaliyah Jones, Jeremy Ross, Pat Malloy (in back), Laura Sneed, and Jose Villarreal (in front).
The student gathered donations of supplies, books, and funds to help build and stock the libraries with age-appropriate games and books.
Then, the Leadership class delivered and filled the libraries, and introduced the libraries to their new homes by joining children for reading and games. (See photos below.)
Leadership Capstone instructor Julie McLaughlin said both organizations expressed appreciation for their new libraries.
I-75 & I-74 Construction Update (June 5-7)
The Ohio Department of Transportation has scheduled overnight projects near the Clifton Campus related to major reconstruction of I-75 & I-74.

- Close the ramp from Beekman to east I-74 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday, June 6.
- Single lane closure on north I-75 from Monmouth to Mitchell from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday.
- Short-term full closures on I-74 and I-75 within the work zone from midnight until 4 a.m. Thursday.

Arrow boards and/or signs will alert motorists of the work zone and restrictions. All work is contingent upon the weather.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed, and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone. Remember, move over or slow down.
