If you missed Common Time on Apr. 8, the House-Bruckmann Awards and Emeritus Faculty celebration is available to view on video at https://cincinnatistate.adobeconnect.com/ptl1qt1jn99d.
Cincinnati State's annual faculty recognition event began with introduction of the newly-designated Emeritus Professor Joanne Johnson (photo at right).
Emeritus Professors are selected through a process of peer nomination and endorsement, and then approval by the Faculty Senate.
President Monica Posey praised Emeritus Professor Johnson for her many years of dedicated service and congratulated the award recipients and nominees for their contributions to the College.
The video for the Awards event includes several "bookmarks" (on the left side of the screen as the video plays) that allow you to jump to a specific section of the recording by clicking a link.
Video recordings of past Common Time sessions are available on the College intranet.
To view recordings or the schedule go to How the College Works > Academics > Common Time Recordings.
Horticulture student receives Davey Foundation Scholarship
Cara Robinson, a student in Cincinnati State's Sustainable Horticulture program, was selected to receive a 2018 Davey Foundation Arbor Grant Program Scholarship Award.
Cara is in the front of the photo above, taken during the recent National Collegiate Landscape Competition where Cincinnati State's team placed fourth overall.
Cara is an active member of the Horticulture Club, and in the National Collegiate Landscape Competition she participated in the Construction Cost Estimating and Interior Plant Identification events.
The Arbor Grant Program Scholarship Awards are made possible by the Davey Company Foundation, a private foundation funded by The Davey Tree Expert Company.
Horticulture Program Chair Mark Deacon said scholarship criteria included academic achievement, interest in the green industry, and faculty recommendations.
Employees: are you graduating, too?
Numerous Cincinnati State employees are also students who are pursuing academic credentials at various levels.
If your graduation is this spring, Daily News would like to help you celebrate your achievement-- so please send information (and a photo, if you wish) to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will gladly share your success with the rest of the College community.
At right is Dr. Sandra F. Dees, Academic Coach/Support Specialist in TRiO Student Support Services, who graduated in April 2018 from North Central University.
Dr. Dees earned the degree Doctor of Education in Leadership in Higher Education. Her dissertation topic was “Education Matters: A Qualitative Case Study on Ways to Increase Retention and Graduation Rates.”
Dr. Dees said her research demonstrated that providing the right amount of holistic, intentional support at the right time improves student trajectories.

An egg hunt for kids ages 1 to 4 takes place at 11 a.m. and an egg hunt for ages 5 to 8 starts at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets are $3 per child, and can be purchased in the Student Activities Office, ATLC 204.
The Spring Celebration is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa honor society, which hopes to make this an annual College event.
Event proceeds will help support the Student School Supplies Closet. The goal of this new project is to give students a no-cost option for obtaining pencils, pens, notebooks, folders, and other supplies on an as-needed basis.
