Helpers needed for "Admit Me" Days from Apr thru Aug

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to welcome and assist new students during Admit Me Days on Clifton Campus.

Volunteer tasks (taking place from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.) include serving as a Greeter, a Hallway Guide, or a Testing Center Assistant.

Admit Me Days are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., from April through August. Dates for these events are:

  • April 6
  • May 4
  • June 1
  • July 13 (2nd Saturday, because of July 4 holiday weekend)
  • August 3

Admit Me Day activities for new and prospective students include:

  • Complete the application for admission
  • Take the placement test, if needed
  • Schedule appointments for academic advising and orientation

Spring Break service hours & activities

During Cincinnati State's Spring Break week (Mar. 18 to 22), classes are not in session but campus offices and services are open.

Spring Break service hours on Clifton Campus include changes listed below.

If you're aware of other Spring Break service changes, please send information to dne@cincinnatistate.edu, and the list will be updated.

FOOD SERVICES:

    • Overlook Cafe open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Hot Line service closing at 1:30 p.m. daily.
      • Limited hot line options, no pizza, no salad bar (grab-&-go sandwiches, salads, and other prepared cold items available)
         
      • Bakery Hill is closed all week. Free Coffee Friday on Mar. 22 is at the Overlook Cafe, from 8 to 9:30 a.m.


LIBRARY:

      • Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
      • Closed on Saturday, Mar. 23


IT SERVICES HELPDESK (Walk-up & Phone) & OPEN LAB:

WDC offers Additive & Machine Tool training programs

The Cincinnati State Workforce Development Center (WDC) is offering two training programs that begin April 1, 2019.

Additive Manufacturing Technician Training prepares individuals to enter the field of 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing as skilled technicians who can operate and maintain 3D printing machines and also assist with product design.

The WDC Additive Manufacturing training program was developed with assistance from GE Additive and other partners, in a collaborative effort to meet current and future workforce needs.

  • Individuals who successfully complete the training program, which includes classroom activities, hands-on operational exercises, and an online component, receive a Manufacturing Readiness Certificate.
  • Training program courses meet Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
     
  • The cost of the program is $7,200. College employees and eligible family members qualify for waivers for a portion of the cost.

CNC Machine Tool Operator Training provides foundational skills for those seeking careers in metal fabrication, metal machine operation, and metal working.

  • Individuals who successfully complete the training program are prepared for the National Institute of Metal Working Skills (NIMS) certification exam.

Additional informtion: I am actually a cat person, but I do not have any cats, and currently have four dogs living with me. For two days of one Thanksgiving weekend, I had 14 dogs in my home (too many dogs to have in one home).

Clifton Campus Construction noise alert

Work on improvements to the boiler system that controls heating and air conditioning in the Clifton Campus Main and Health Professions buildings will cause construction-related noise on campus during Spring Break week (Mar. 18-22).

This project, which will continue through August, will replace all of the old boiler system mechanics with a more efficient water-based system.

Work underway (that will be noisy at times) includes installing new piping and air handlers and connecting pipes located in ceilings.

In addition, parents who use the Mallory Center have been encouraged to use an alternate parking location from Mar. 18-22, so the designated childcare parking in Lot D can accomodate equipment needed for the construction work.

Other limitations to Clifton Campus access and parking are expected on Thursday and Friday, Mar. 21 and 22. Additional details will be provided in Daily News.

I-75 & I-74 Construction Update (Mar. 18-22 overnight)

 The Ohio Department of Transportation has scheduled overnight projects near the Clifton Campus related to major reconstruction of I-75 & I-74.

  • Monday, Mar. 18 and Tuesday, Mar. 19 - Short term full closures within the work zone nightly between midnight and 4 a.m. the following day. Traffic will be maintained with law enforcement officers.
    • Lane closure on north Beekman Street from Elmore Street to Colerain Avenue nightly from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day.
    • Full closure of south Beekman Street from Colerain Avenue to Elmore Street nightly from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day.
    • Also, full closure of the ramp from Colerain Avenue/Beekman Street to east I-74 nightly from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day.
       
  • In addition, on Tuesday, March 19 - lane closure on east I-74 from Montana Avenue to the I-75 split from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 20.
     
  • Wednesday, March 20 -
    • Full closure of south Beekman Street from Colerain Avenue to Elmore Street from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day.
    • Full closure of the ramp from Colerain Avenue/Beekman Street to east I-74 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day.
    • Also, short-term full closures on I-74 and I-75 within the work zone between midnight and 4 a.m. the following day. Traffic will be maintained with law enforcement officers.
  • Thursday, March 21 -

Arrow boards and/or signs will alert motorists of the work zone and restrictions. All work is contingent upon the weather.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed, and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone. Remember, move over or slow down.
