Oct. 4 Employee Benefits Fair includes Open Enrollment & Flu Shots
The Employee Benefits Fair takes place Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Conference Center (Clifton Campus) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- All benefit-eligible College employees are invited to attend and meet with benefits providers, pick up giveaway items, and sign up to win prizes.
- Also, during the Benefits Fair you can complete Open Enrollment for the "mini-plan" period that will begin Jan. 1, 2019, and continue through June 30, 2019.
(Another Open Enrollment period will occur in Spring, for the full year July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.)
- In addition, flu shots provided by Walgreens will be available during the Benefits Fair to all full-time College employees and all part-time employees, including adjunct faculty.

Get Your Flu Shot at the Fair
Flu shots provided by Walgreens are available to all College employees during the Benefits Fair.
- The flu shot is free for those enrolled in a Cincinnati State health plan (the UMR PPO plan or the UMR High Deductible plan). Please bring your insurance card.
- If you are not covered by Cincinnati State health insurance, you can get a flu shot for $35. Please bring cash, or a check made payable to Walgreens.
In addition everyone seeking a flu shot must bring a completed flu shot consent form. Click here to download the form.
Please wear loose-fitting clothing (so it's easy to expose your upper arm for the shot).
Complete Open Enrollment by Oct. 19
Please check your College email on Oct. 4 for a message with a link to the Open Enrollment portal, and opportunities to sign up for enrollment assistance from Sun Life representatives (walking you through the sections of the online Open Enrollment form to add your choices).
At the Benefits Fair, you can consult with representatives from HORAN (the College's Benefits Consultant) and Human Resources about benefits choices and get more information about the options available.
Also during the Benefits Fair, you can complete your Open Enrollment at the online Enrollment Portal.

The Online Portal for Open Enrollment will continue to be available until Friday, Oct. 19.
All employees must use the Open Enrollment portal to select your choices no later than Oct. 19-- even if you are waiving insurance benefits.

ATLC exit has restricted access after 9 p.m. on Oct. 3
The project to replace the lights in ATLC lower-level lobby (location of the old bookstore / new Welcome Center) will be completed this evening, Oct. 3.
The lobby will be closed to all foot traffic from 9 p.m. on Oct. 3 to 6 a.m. on Oct. 4.
A second lift was brought in to replace the final three light fixtures in the high-ceiling atrium space. Both lifts used for this project will leave the College premises on Thursday morning.
- Those who need to exit the ATLC lobby after 9 p.m. in order to reach the Central Parkway garage will need to use a nearby alternative exit. Signs will be in place to direct exiting pedestrians to the temporary departure door.
- Anyone who needs to enter the ATLC during the hours the crew is working will be directed to the correct door via signs placed outside the ATLC.

Free Coffee Friday schedule for Fall is complete
The Free Coffee Friday speaker's list for the rest of Fall Semester is now available.
Free Coffee Friday takes place in the area adjacent to Bakery Hill, on the second floor of the ATLC, from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
Students as well as College employees are invited to join College administrators for informal information-sharing, questions, and/or feedback about College activities and operations.
A free small coffee or hot tea will be provided for each participant.

CState Upward Bound high school students are bound for college success
Cincinnati State's TRIO Upward Bound program at Mt. Healthy High School ended the 2017-18 year with 15 high school graduates (including the students above) headed to four-year institutions, and 12 of the 15 also received scholarships or grants.
The TRIO Upward Bound Class of 2018 included Brandon Hernandez, who was the high school's graduating class Salutatorian and is attending the Ohio State University this fall. Another notable graduate, Carlos Hall, Jr., received a full scholarship to Alabama A&M University for Marching Band.
Both Brandon and Carlos were three-year participants in the TRIO Upward Bound program at Mt. Healthy, and according to TRIO Director Regina Livers, both were "standout examples of determination, consistency, and grit."
Cincinnati State was awarded grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education in 2012-- with a grant renewal in 2017-- to support the TRIO Upward Bound program at Mt. Healthy. The current grant ends in May 2022.
"Traditional" Upward Bound (like the program at Mt. Healthy) helps secondary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds (including low-income individuals and first-generation college students) to successfully graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary options.
Students in the program receive support including career counseling, academic assistance, and an annual summer enrichment program.
The Cincinnati State grant serves 63 students each year, and has maintained a high school graduation rate of 100%.
TRIO Upward Bound is part of Cincinnati State's College Access programs, which include Student Support Services and the Educational Opportunity Center.
National Public Alert System test (via cell phone) is Oct. 3 at 2:18 p.m.
Director of Campus Safety Mike Wylie reminds the College community that today, Oct. 3, at 2:18 p.m., the Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and the Wireless Emergency Alert.
This is the first test of the national, presidential-level wireless alert system. Cell phone users cannot opt out of this level of alert.
Beginning at 2:18 p.m., cell phone towers will broadcast the alert for approximately 30 minutes.
Any compatible cell phone that is turned on and within range of an active cell phone tower will receive the following one-time message: "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."
